sex, space and celebrations

A blog about a few of the highlights I've found on my RSS feed this week...

Is the internet replacing sex?

The Guardian, PDA, Digital Content Blog by Mercedes Bunz provided a rather funny article about the increased use of digital media by young males.

According to Sparkler for Microsoft Advertising, in the UK 99% of young males go online either every day or nearly every day. 80% even go so far as to say that they would be lost without it.

Some 38% even claim to have surfed the internet while in bed with their partner. Could this mean that despite hundreds of years of the UK's fascination with it, the internet could be over shadowing even the most basic of human desires - sex.

Twitter invades space

We all know that Twitter has sky-rocketed over the last year, but now its literally sky-high. The Observer featured an article on Sunday about the instant access to photos from outer space through the medium of Twitter. Another step for Twitter in their world (or space) domination.

The "dot com" domain is 25 years old in March and raising its profiles in a number of festivities. Read about it HERE.

This is a great chance for all of us to look back and reflect on just how much the internet has effected our lives and changed the world we live in today. Profound, intellectual thoughts ... or something that every person that is 'online' should be considering?

The unorganised one attempts blogging again

Ok, so my original attempt to blog regularly failed dramatically. But as I have now decided to base my dissertation around a social media topic and our courses are becoming more and more heavily involved in social media, I thought I should get my act together. So ..... be prepared for lots of links and opinions and what not coming your way!
